25 and All That Comes With It

So, it's been a minute and there's a lot to update this blog about! Theatre has been its usual demanding beast that I love but am constantly trying to complete without letting it be too all-consuming. I costume designed three shows back to back that I will feature on this blog but if you're interested in my work, you can take a peak over at my portfolio site (here). I've been buying beautiful vintage goodies for Gal Friday Vintage (the store) which will be out in a few months. So, needless to say I've been a bit MIA on this space!

I turned 25 on October 5th this month so I thought I'd share iPhone photos of my birthday weekend. I celebrated the night of October 4th and during the day of October 5th. 25 is an interesting age because it marks pretty much 1/4 of life. 25 for me represents transition into official adulthood and all that comes with it. I feel optimistic but it's also weird to think about where one thinks they'll be at age 25 when they are say 10 or 16 and where you ACTUALLY end up. All. I know is, I wanted to bring the big 2-5 in style so I wore two gorgeous vintage outfits.

Day 1# - This was my Friday, October 4th (pre-birthday) look. I went out on the town with my cousins and best friend to some of my favorite speakeasy style bars and a few other random spots. I sipped on fabulous champagne and cognac cocktails, slurped oysters, and dined on chicken piccata. I wanted my outfit to be a bit sexier than what I normally wear. Think Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Eartha Kitt, and Jayne Mansfield. The bombshells were my inspiration. I found this gorgeous 1980s/90s emerald green velvet dress at Chelsea's Costumes. It is an off the shoulder number with a slightly plunging neckline held up with gathered black shoulder straps for support. It is cinched and hugs virtually every curve with beautiful seams starting at the bust that flatters the figure. The dress is floor length with a slit up the leg.

I paired this dress with a 2-tiered vintage gold dangly necklace and my tiny black floral vintage clutch that was gifted to me by a dear friend and fellow Costume Designer. My shoes aren't shown here, but I opted for a black suede 3 1/2-4 inch heel to have similar texture to the velvet of the dress.

Outfit #2 - Marked my actual birthday, Saturday October 5th. (I was so happy that my birthday fell on a Saturday!) I had more of a relaxed day, opting for a brunch at my favorite little French restaurant, Le Petit Triangle and afterwards going to check out the biopic Judy about Judy Garland. I wanted to wear something light and beautiful. I found this 1960s dream dress again at Chelsea's Costumes. It is a floral floor length empire waist dress wrapped over at the bust with accentuating pleats. The sleeves are pleated sheer flutter sleeves that remind me of gorgeous dresses in the 1930s. You cannot see my shoes again in this picture because admittedly this dress needs to be hemmed, but I wore light green t-strapped heels.

I felt like an absolute princess in this lovely little number! Both dresses are like day and night, but made me feel so confident entering age 25.

I feel grateful to see another year. Grateful to be able to share more content and am so excited to share with you Gal Friday Vintage as a whole concept--vintage shop, consistent blog, YouTube channel, etc. I've dreamt of having a vintage shop and sharing my love of entertainment, glamour, home decor, and so on from the past and I will finally be able to share it in its complete fruition with you guys very soon! Just bear with me. I appreciate all of the support I've gotten on this blog. With love always!!
