Gal Friday Vintage Reboot

Hello lovelies, Gal Friday Vintage is back and ready for action! Think of this as a reboot, Gal Friday Vintage 2.0. I am back to regular scheduled programing and I have some exciting posts coming up! I will take you guys with me on my vintage shopping excursions (my hometown has the BEST vintage shops ever!), show different cocktail and food recipes using vintage cookbooks and magazines, and show how I am decorating my little vintage apartment! And of course I will continue with my OOTDs (Outfits of the Day), history posts on Old Hollywood, old film and television reviews, and so on.

I have left the big city to move back to my hometown. Goodbye subways and larger than life buildings and hello convertibles and cute local shops! Summer is here and we can finally shed our heavy winter coats and fur boots in favor of sundresses and sandals. You can stay cool in your summer outfits and pair them with retro accessories to get that vintage look!

90 degree weather is not my cup of tea per se but times like this calls for a nice stroll around the lake and I do enjoy those! I like to drive with my top down in my P.T. Cruiser Convertible (more on my car in this post) to the local lake with family or friends.

I've learned the best way to cool down but stay cute: kick your shoes off and dip your feet in the cool water. Literally the best feeling ever on a hot day!

For hot days like this I typically opt out of wearing actual vintage clothing. Vintage garments normally consists of layers of lining and heavier fabrics (such as wools and linens) as back in the day, clothing companies made garments from fabrics with natural fibers (such as cottons, wools, and silks). I'm not a vintage purist, I will wear modern clothing and pair it with retro or vintage accessories to get the desired look.

This golden pleated two-tiered dress is from H&M. I snagged it at a sale for $10! This dress is perfect for summer because it is super lightweight and reminiscent of 1920s/early 1930s style of dresses. The bodice portion is lightly lined but the skirt portion is not. I wear a lightweight black 1950s half slip underneath since it is on the sheer side (my post on vintage undergarments can be found here).

For accessories, I opted for my 1970s burnt orange sandal wedges with gold floral rhinestone embellishments paired with my gold cat eye sunglasses (bought from Forever21 or H&M). I like to pair modern items with vintage to get more interesting looks.

To top it off I tied a vintage basil green silk scarf around my hair knotted at my neck. Scarves in various sizes can come in handy for various looks! This is my go to scarf look for convertibles, windy or rainy days, or simply for a bad hair day! It also looks great with sunglasses. Think Brigitte Bardot or Audrey Hepburn!

(Pretend that there's no sand caught on the bottom of my wedge.)

Boy am I glad for summer and I'm glad to return to Gal Friday Vintage! I've missed creating content and I hope you guys enjoy my return!

I'll see you all next Friday!
