As Time Goes By…

Hello, darlings! It's been far too long, and I am delighted to be back after my long hiatus. I went on hiatus for several reasons, but to put it simply: I've been insanely busy juggling graduate school, a full-time job, and everything in between. I've thought of many ideas for Gal Friday Vintage throughout my time away. I contemplated archiving this blog and opting to no longer post here (read my previous post here on why). But, this is a space that I've put a lot of time and energy into over the years. I love to type out my ideas and thoughts, create outfit inspirations, and nerd out over classic cinema. I want to continue this blog and expand upon it on other social media. I also plan to expand GFV Shop to have shop items available in physical space(s) in my hometown, Cleveland, Ohio. To anyone who still reads this blog or keeps up with GFV on social media, please be patient with me, and I thank you for your continued support.

I will begin by detailing my accessories in terms of my outfit. My sunglasses are 1950s cat-eye silver frames with tiny rhinestones on the outer edges. I bought these sunnies many years ago from Attenson's Antiques and Books for $5. What a steal! My handbag choice is a navy top-handle medium-sized purse purchased from the consignment shop, Christ Child Showcase Lakewood. The handbag was on sale for $7, and I carry it around constantly. It is a newer handbag that looks retro and has details that I love, especially the belted piece at the opening. My vintage chocolate-colored gloves were gifted to me by my mentor and friend, Heidi Korkosz. They’re a bit worn out and have some discoloration, but they're one of my favorite pairs of gloves. My boots are knock-off, Doc Martens from DSW that are super worn from wear and tear at work.

Let's talk about this fabulous vintage taxi cab yellow London Fog trench coat that I bought three years ago in New York City from Stella Dallas Vintage. I'm not entirely sure about the decade but based on the label, I'd guess this jacket was made in the 1970s/80s. I love the coat's dramatic flair with double collars, belted waist, and black details (buttons and top collar). This trenchcoat reminds me of the kinds that detectives would wear in old films.

For makeup, I kept it simple by using Cover Girl's “Plum Plush” blush on my eyelids and cheeks. I wore my classic cat eyeliner with Wet N Wild's Megaliner (a liquid formula) and Ardell Wispies lashes. For lipstick, I blended L.A. Colors' "Art Deco" (an orange-red) and Revlon's classic "Certainly Red" (a true red).

I wore an all-black outfit that consisted of a flowy blouse with shoulder cutouts, ruffled sleeve hems, and a tie at the low neckline. My dear friend, Lady Jen Ryan, gifted this blouse to me. I tucked the loose blouse into a pair of high-waisted black trousers that I bought years ago at H&M. I used grey belting to break up the all-black ensemble. This outfit makes me feel cool and mysterious.

I wore my natural hair, pinned it up, and topped it with a vintage sheer black hair net that ties at the neck with ribbons. The net has gold speckles all over it that constantly catch the light. I bought this vintage hair net at Chelsea’s Costumes for $2.

It felt good to document a vintage outfit that I love and get back in the swing of things! I hope that whoever is reading this enjoyed this post, and I will definitely see you next week! <3
