Back in the House

Hello dear friends! The saying goes, the third time's the charm. For this blog, this may be the seventh or eighth charm. As you all know, life sometimes gets in the way of the best-laid plans, and one's schedule can become too overwhelming. I've scaled back on some extra designing workload I took on and have more time (and a little more peace of mind) to return to what I love most- vintage. During times of great distress or uncertainty, I turn to my old films and surround myself with beautiful vintage and antique things to bring joy and calmness amidst the storms. I've decided that 2024 is the time to finally accomplish goals that I've had for Gal Friday Vintage for a while now, and I cannot wait to share those with you next year!

In the meantime, I'm returning to this blog with a classic outfit of the day post. In the coming weeks and months, there will be posts on old film recommendations, vintage hauls, retro cocktail/food recipes, and stars from yesteryear. Now, come with me as I go outside for the first time in awhile, to do some vintage shopping during Black Friday weekend!

As the weather hastily becomes colder and colder here in Cleveland, Ohio, I have begun to layer my clothing for warmth and to showcase some fall fashion. My first layer includes a red, green, and white 1970s plaid Career Club button-down shirt. This button-down is a casual and classic staple in my closet that I purchased at my favorite vintage shop, Akron's The Bombshelter. My pants of choice are my thrifted grey Alfred Dunner Petite pants with a light white crisscross pattern. This base look reminds me of the charming Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman in one of my favorite fall watches, All That Heaven Allows (1955). My purse is a 1950s/60s medium-sized dusty brown clutch with a detachable chain handle. I purchased this for $5 from Christ Child Showcase Lakewood.

My second layer is a fabulous, vivid burgundy 1980s blazer by Joyce, also purchased from The Bombshelter. I love this blazer's details, including the patch pockets with faux flaps, cowboy-esque top-stitching, decorative gold buttons, and a perfectly pointed collar. This blazer reminds me of something Pam Grier could've easily sported in Jackie Brown (1997).

Will you believe I scored these vintage Fownes genuine leather, cashmere-lined gloves from Volunteers of America for a mere $3? What a luxurious steal! These are the most comfortable, lavish gloves I've ever worn in cold weather! My sunglasses are tortoiseshell-printed cat eye frames from Amazon that I found for a steal ($9).

Accessories, accessories, accessories. Let's talk about them. I chose a comfy camel brown elastic headband from Target to keep my head warm. My rings are vintage costume rings that are silver plated, gold rings--one with faux pearl and small diamonds, the other with a giant pink faux gemstone. I purchased these rings (and several other fabulous costume jewelry) from All Things For You, which has some of the best vintage jewelry in town! I switched purses to a larger bag that I typically carry at work. I purchased this light brown secondhand C.B. Made in Italy purse from Christ Child Showcase Lakewood for $10 a while back.

Finally, during my Black Friday weekend, I had to share my favorite vintage find. I purchased this fabulous 1960s deadstock brown leather wallet with white daisies on the front. This wallet is the perfect size for me and has so much charm. I purchased this gem for $12 from Flower Child! My cocktail of choice on this day was a Tokyo Mule from Sakana Sushi Bar. It is a fabulous spin on a Moscow Mule, except you use sake! I definitely will try to make this at home, as I am a huge fan of Japanese rice wine.

I hope you all enjoyed this return post, and I will see you next week!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own the photograph and gif of Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson in All That Heaven Allows (1955).
