Nautical Disco

Hello lovelies, I'm back with another post. Summer has been filled with heat waves and 90+ degree weather in all parts of the country. Midwest is typically on the cooler side during summer with 70 degree weather. Needless to say, it's been an adjustment and with that comes an adjustment to wardrobe! The less clothing I can get away with wearing the better.

I become lazy during the summer and that means that there are no layers on my body. I prefer a light dress over separates. Something that I can slip on and off in two seconds.

Today I kept things quite vintage. My handbag is a 1950s white and ivory beaded and patterned ladies' day purse. I found this purse for $5 at a lovely consignment shop in my neighborhood called Designer Consignor. My sunglasses are circa 1950s cat eye frames with small rhinestone embellishments. I bought them for $10 at Attenson's Coventry Antiques and Books. I love these sunglasses because they give any outfit a 1950s touch even if you're wearing modern pieces head to toe. I'm unsure of what era my ring comes from but if I had to guess I'd say 1980s/90s reproduction costume ring with large blue stones and gold trimming.

My dress is a 1950s sailor dress in navy with white small scale print and white lines at the sleeve and collar. I love the gathering at the waist because it gives me room to breathe comfortably in. I snagged the dress for $15 at L Train Vintage in Brooklyn, New York. During summer I like to wear comfortable shoes and today I wore my black Mary Jane flats that I bought on Ebay.

As always I like to mix decades and this time around I mixed 1950s vintage with extra big and kinky 1970s Diana Ross styled hair. Again, I like to mix decades because I think it creates something new and interesting. I love all things 1930s-70s and I believe many styles can correlate with one another if done with the proper eye!

I hope you all enjoyed this outfit post and I will see you next Friday!
