Think Pink!

In terms of fashion and beauty, Fall/Winter is the time when one's personal style can really shine through! Spring/Summer is all about staying cool--the less clothing the better. This time of year the focus is warmth--layers of clothing (base wear, outerwear, and everything in between) and accessories (scarves, hats, gloves, etc.) are piled upon one another. There's more thought that goes into planning a winter look. Practicality, comfort, and durability all play a huge role in determining one's outfit. Those mornings where you just want to snuggle under your covers and sleep through your alarm, there is extra time required simply for dressing for the day. In July, I was stepping into a summery dress and stepping outside--in December, I'm putting on the first layer of an undershirt, thermals, and two pairs of socks, then layering my actual outfit over it before I can even get that last sip of coffee in.

With all of that being said, I love the many options that you have when deciding on an outfit. All of the different coat options, you can go with the practical puff coat, the elegant shearling caplet, a daring printed wool coat, or the attention grabbing fur coat. You can wear leather gloves or a heavy duty thermal glove set. Do you dare brave the weather and attempt to wear a dress or skirt? Or do you stick with that reliable wool pant? The options feel pretty endless!

For this day, I opted to go for an ultra girly look. The song that comes to mind is "Think Pink!" from Funny Face (1957) -- a song all about a Diana Vreeland esque editor-in-chief declaring that pink would be the color shown throughout the Vogue esque magazine in the film. This was my outfit underneath my coat (which I will show later in this post).

I wore my favorite winter sweater which is this pink and white checkered heavy knitted sweater with rhinestone embellished snowflakes and a soft, plush (removable) pink faux fur collar. I found this for a couple bucks at the Salvation Army last year on a half-priced day and fell madly in love with it. I want to try iceskating this winter and I feel like this sweater is a must wear for that day! I wore a 1990s white polo neck knit top and a 1960s grey knit skirt. All of these were also found items at Salvation Army.

I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of wearing hats during Winter. I know that it is the practical choice, but I sometimes find hats to feel uncomfortable on my head or messes up a hairdo. I opt for a scarf tied in the front and knotted in the back, which I call my Convertible Style. I love wearing my scarf in this manner with the top down in my car, but I believe that it works in keeping my head pretty warm as well! I opted for this long pink vintage floral scarf to match my sweater and pink eyeshadow and lipstick!

Now onto the outerwear: I wore a thrifted (ANOTHER Salvation Army find coincidentally) black London Fog jacket (I believe 1990s/early 2000s). It is super comfy made of a kind of suede material and double breasted with big brown buttons. To dress it up and follow the glitziness of my pink and white sweater, I added a vintage floral silver and red rhinestone brooch. I wore brown suede ankle boots, dark grey tights and black vintage gloves that are slightly discolored but super comfortable!

Here is a close up of the rhinestone brooch found at New To You Resale Shop.

I also carried this beautiful small vintage purse that was gifted to me by my fellow Costume Designer and friend, Lady Jen Ryan. It is a pretty cream number with an elegant leaf print in baby blue, pink, and gold outlines and pearl decorations and clasp. I thought that this paired well with the overall look!
