That Katherine Hepburn Appeal

Hello darlings! I’m back with another post filled with continual autumn fever. I am heavily inspired by the fashionable looks of Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich who were both the masters of combining androgynous tailored pieces with a feminine touch. Think crisp button down shirts, high-waisted pants, strong shoulder lines, and sensible heels in autumnal color palettes: hunter green, plum, orange, yellow, grey, and maroon.

This entire outfit is comprised of vintage items. I am wearing a hunter green wool turtleneck that is perfect for the chillier days. My vintage grey plaid high-waisted pants have an elastic waistband that ensures a comfortable fit. This 1990s (40s-esque) blazer is by Tina Hagan and is VERY reminiscent of Katharine Hepburn. I feel powerful every time I sport this look. The print is small tweed houndstooth in tan, plum, and black with black lapels and insets in the front. There are two black arrows at either end of the curved pockets reminiscent of 1940s detailing. I accessorized this blazer with a pearl brooch. All of these items were purchased over the years from Salvation Army, which is my go to thrift shop. My vintage earrings are dangly two tiered rhinestones purchased from Designer Consignor in Lakewood.

My gorgeous tiny handbag was gifted to me by my dear friend and costume design colleague Lady Jen Ryan. I have featured this bag on my blog before as this is one of my very favorites. I adore the gorgeous colorful floral embroidery that pops against the black backdrop. Lady Jen saw me ogling this handbag on a shopping excursion at Housing Works. I hesitantly decided not to purchase the purse and was later gifted it by her. xx

My 60s inspired black suede ankle boots were bought from Forever 21 ages ago. Note: I no longer support fast fashion and opt to shop from secondhand shops.

I rarely wear red lipstick anymore but decided to wear my favorite classic red, “Cherries in the Snow” by Revlon which has been around since the 1950s.

One recommendation I am leaving with you is a lovely music playlist that is heavily inspired by 1940s film noir films, perfect for fall! (here)

I hope you enjoyed this post and I will see you next Friday with a Halloween post!
