Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows

Hello, dear readers! I am back, doing it old-school Gal Friday Vintage with a small outfit of the day post. As my lovely summer break begins to end and I prepare to get back in the swing of things as a first-grade teacher, I am savoring each day, whether it is sunny or not. While it was not particularly sunny on this day, I still opted for an outfit that has quickly become a favorite of mine. I purchased most of this fit during my West Coast trip to California. I enjoy mixing authentic vintage with modern pieces and playing with various decades to create a unique look.

I am by no means a vintage purist, so I would like to begin by spotlighting the modern items that I am wearing. My comfy, grey acrylic short-sleeved top is by ASOS. The mock neck gives it a retro 1960s feel and will be lovely paired with any piece, from A-line skirts to pedal pushers. I purchased this shirt from one of my favorite vintage shops I visited during my stay in Pasadena, California, Pasadena Antique Mall, which holds a special place in my heart. It is a gigantic space with many different vendors, each with a distinctive vintage and retro aesthetic.

Regarding footwear, I am currently obsessed with these vegan leather white flats with small, pretty cutouts. The shoes are from Shop-Pêche, a New York-based shop selling everything from chic clothing to staple accessories. Again, these flats pair well with many of my vintage pieces and can be worn with pretty dresses or bold separates. I like to wear these shoes with my 50s-70s pieces because they go with many colorful outfits and are very comfortable.

The scene-stealing piece in this ensemble is the bold, multi-colored printed skirt. I also purchased it from Pasadena Antique Mall. I was immediately drawn to it the moment I laid eyes on it. I was so nervous that it wouldn't fit, but it was the perfect match. This is a 1950s handmade piece made from what appears to be an acetate fabric in a deep brown with large, beautiful, bright pink, yellow, and orange flowers. It has a metal side zipper and button closure, allowing for a snug but comfortable fit. My favorite aspect of this skirt is that it can be worn during any season, especially summer (with a short-sleeved top) or fall (with a long-sleeved shirt and sweater).

My small handbag is a gorgeous 1950s beaded Magid purse that can be worn as a clutch or carried with a thin metal handle. Nothing beats the detailing of 1950s purses. I love that the intricate beading forms floral appliques. The purse has a cream-colored background with white beading, which gives it a classic and elegant look. I can wear it with casual outfits such as this one or with more elegant pieces for a night out or a special occasion.

Finally, I must mention my retro reproduction earrings, which I purchased on Etsy from star seller @MrsPollysLucite. She creates fabulous vintage-inspired and reproduction jewelry. The set I am wearing in this photograph is her Hawaiian Tiki Earrings, which are inspired by 1940s/50s Bakelite, a synthetic plastic that became popular for jewelry, specifically during the 1920-40s. The earrings are made with raffia rattan for an authentic look.

I've been inspired by bright, vibrant colors. I hope this outfit post of the day brought you a little joy in some way, and I look forward to seeing you next week. Ciao! :)
