Housewarming Extravaganza

I love parties in all shapes and forms. I think of parties as living la vie en rose for a night (or day). Parties are a form of celebrating a life, new beginnings, the joining of families, and so on, but the key word is CELEBRATION. As many of you know I have a new apartment on my own and I thought that it was about time to celebrate with my loved ones!

The perfect night called for the perfect gown! I chose this early 1960s floor length formal gown in powder blue with gold leaf appliqués. The dress has sequins around the neckline that mimic the look of a low necklace. The sleeves are 1940s inspired flutter sleeves. For shoes I chose these 1940s gold and white boudoir wedges. This is the kind of dress that I felt like a million bucks in!

While my home is small, I wanted to make the normal party for one a party for many. In this kind of weather, I did not want to slave away in a kitchen. Instead I decided to make a bunch of appetizers that people could form into meals. Everything that was made wasn't photographed but I'll share the details! I went to Sam's Club so that items could be bought in bulk. I bought Italian meatballs, Asian ginger infused chicken wings, a variety of pinwheel sandwiches, calamari, and crab cakes in the frozen section. All that was needed was 15-20 minute heating in a conventional oven. I bought shrimp cocktail platters as well!

The only item of food that I made was a simple caesar salad of romaine lettuce, shredded parmesan cheese, a dash of salt and pepper, and olive oil that was placed in a pretty vintage looking bottle from Dollar Tree. Marinara sauce, cocktail sauce, and ranch were also provided on the side.

My finished bar cart unfortunately wasn't photographed so I will just detail what I did! I provided my guests with sturdy (but plastic) champagne flutes. I utilized my 1950s gold and white champagne holder as an ice bucket. Lots of sparkling wine was provided and people could build their own champagne cocktail. The crystal bowl held sugar cubes with bitters on them for champagne cocktails. I also had a huge 1960s rounded pitcher with small glasses for those who wanted to sip on something a little stronger than brut. My drink of choice was mint juleps made of bourbon, mint simple syrup, and a splash of water ideal for a cool summer day!

Overall my housewarming was a huge success! My music choice consisted of the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Earth, Wind, and Fire. The food and drinks were spot on and the company was even better!

Hope you all enjoyed this post and I'll see you next week!
