Nightgowns Pt. I
This is going on Week #5 for me of being in isolation and it's slowly becoming the new normal for me (as I'm sure for all of you that are also temporarily unemployed). I wear my finest loungewear and nightgowns around the house more often now because I have more than enough time to hand wash and properly care for my pieces. Today I am not wearing a "nightgown" per say, but I thought I'd share this lovely look as a part of this small Nightgowns series.
If you notice, I've switched up my eye makeup techniques a lot lately. I've been opting for a more 60s eye. I use Estee Lauder's Pure Color Envy eyeshadow palette. For my "primer" I simply use my Coty Airspun Powder in Translucent and cover my eyelid and brow bone in it. I then use Ivory Power 3 from the palette and top it with Untamed Teal 1 (the name is misleading as it's actually a white eyeshadow). I do a strong cut crease with Rebel Metal 5 which is a shimmery dark brown with golden undertones. I use a small thin tipped eyeliner brush to draw a precise line on my crease and blend it out with angled eyeliner brush to soften it a bit. I then line my eyes the way I always do, with liquid liner in a cat eye. I wear Ardell Wispies strip lashes (I think I will experiment with individual lashes since I have ample time to practice it). I want to experiment with more 60s eye makeup looks as I like how dramatic they can be.
Now moving on to what I wore. I find a lot of comfort in wearing kimonos around the apartment if it's a bit chilly. Surprisingly it snowed a bit this day so there was a little bit of a draft that crept in. This kimono is a gorgeous royal purple kimono with the loveliest white, pink, and baby blue floral pattern. The neckline is finished with a thick white bias tape. I purchased this from Flower Child and am unsure when it was made but I know that I will keep it in my possession for a long time.
Underneath my kimono, I am wearing my 1930s bias-cut sheer slip with a low-cut back and lace hem. This is one of the oldest garments that I own in my possession. I rarely wear this piece as it is extremely fragile. To see the full details of it in photographs, I'd suggest checking out my "Trick or Treat, But in 1933" post (here) where I wore this slip as part of my Josephine Baker costume in Halloween of 2017. The beauty of owning slips in different lengths and colors is the fact that you can wear it on its own as a "nightgown" and it's easy to layer other chic items on top of it. You can wear it in the traditional way, underneath dresses and skirts. Some people even wear slips as their every day outfit. A slip is a versatile, functional garment.
My black marabou slippers are by Fayuekey and are extra comfy as the slippers are lined with faux fur making it extremely soft to wear. This can be purchased online for $25.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and are staying safe and healthy. I hope that you are following the social distancing rules and properly keeping yourselves protected if you need to go out. What TV shows are you currently binging? I am very into Mrs. America (2020) which is a miniseries on Hulu in partnership with FX that aims to tell the story of the ERA Movement (Equal Rights Amendment). The show focuses on women who led the movement and were prominent feminists of the time (1970s), such as Shirley Chisholm (Uzo Aduba) and Gloria Stenheim (Rose Byrne), juxtaposed with conservative author Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett) who worked to take down the movement. So far it's a pretty good watch and the costumes, hair, and makeup are spot on. I suggest watching it!
I'll see you all next week!
