Blue in Green

I’m back and feeling lovelier than ever. October is my favorite month of the year. For starters my birthday is on the 5th making me an indecisive and artistic Libra—and is probably why my opinion is biased. Fall is at its most beautiful during this time. Turner Classic Movies shows the best films—lots of horror, film noir, and campy movies. Plenty of interesting and creepy television shows premiere (I HIGHLY recommend the visually stunning Ratched set in 1947, available on Netflix). Not to mention jazz and oldies sounds their best in October (here’s a fabulous autumn playlist for you). I love the occasional autumn rain and its lovely smell. I love the way trees turn into the rich color palette of orange, maroon, and yellow. I love warm apple cider and iced pumpkin spice lattes.

Consider this post a last ode to the floral dress (at least for awhile). This 1960s/1970s dream dress pays homage to all of the eras that I love. The print of this dress is classic 1960s, a bold floral print in lovely shades of lavender, yellow, baby blue, and light green against a cream background. The floral print sheer fabric lays onto of a cream lining. The dress is floor length and cascades behind and around me for dramatic effect.

My favorite aspect of this dress is the top portion. It is a cross over empire waist bodice with darts under the bust. The sheer ruffled cape sleeves only add to its charm. The cape sleeves wrap around to the back where you tie the excess fabric to tighten the bodice. Whenever I wear this dress, I feel like a princess. It is one of my all time favorite vintage purchases which I bought from Chelsea’s Costumes in pristine condition.

I’ve been experimenting with 1940s/50s inspired hairstyles. I take a section from the front of my hair and roll it into a mock victory roll and secure it with a bobby pin. (I cannot consider this a real victory roll to be honest, but I am working on it.) I did my usual eye makeup routine and wore L.A. Colors lipstick in the color “Art Deco” from the limited collection “Beauty Thru the Decades: 20s.” It is a beautiful red with brown undertones that create a blood orange coloring against my skin tone.

I hope that you all enjoyed this Outfit of the Day post and I will see you next Friday!
