Come See About Me

Hello, darlings! I am so happy to be back on this little platform, sharing my love of vintage with you. I've finally reached the final curtain in obtaining my master's degree and will graduate in May. I have more time on my hands to curate new vintage items and return to this blog. As always, I want to be more consistent in this space. I recently received such kind messages on Instagram about this blog, which drove me to begin it again.

Spring is here, and I feel motivated to return to wearing beautiful vintage dresses and gowns. I recently watched the romantic comedy, The April Fools (1969), starring Jack Lemmon and Catherine Deneuve. It provided all the most fabulous late 60s fashion inspiration. Every piece of clothing and accessory was over the top--from crocheted see-through dresses to cropped fur coats with fur hoods. And, of course, Catherine Deneuve was a dream! I highly recommend giving this little campy film a watch. It is available on Paramount Plus and served as my inspiration for my look of the day.

For my outfit today, I wore my current favorite dress. I purchased this 1970s poly-blend empire waist full-length dress. I adore the graphic floral print of the dress in neutral colors such as browns, soft oranges, and cream. I absolutely love that this dress is flowy and comfortable but consists of a fitted bodice with crocheted lace trimming at the underbust. This dress does not have a label, simply a lot number and a dry clean-only tag. I purchased this number at Akron's The Bombshelter for a mere $30.

My earrings are 1950s/60s retro-style thick hoops in white. I am uncertain where I purchased these, but I believe I bought them at a consignment shop! I am wearing one of my favorite vegan liquid lipsticks from a black-owned company, ForHerCosmetics, in the shade Matte Carmen. I painted my nails in the classic color, Revlon Red, by Revlon. I find the Matte Carmen shade and Revlon Red pair well together!

I wore B.A.I.T. Imsie Canary Yellow Beige Wing Tip Heels for my footwear. These heels stay put on my feet with thin straps and are 1940s-style shoes. These heels are not the most appropriate shoe for this dress as I believe a white or cream-colored pair of slingbacks is more aligned with the aesthetic of the dress. But I worked with what I had! I purchased these retro-style shoes from eBay. My simple white cat-eye sunglasses were purchased from Amazon. They came with another pair of the same style shades but with a tortoiseshell pattern.

Finally, for handbags, I opted for a rather worn, beloved 1950s leather cream-colored purse from Akron's Bombshelter that I purchased for $9. This top-handle bag was rather loved in the past but is in an excellent condition regarding how much it can hold and its sturdiness. I adore this bag despite its wear.

This is the perfect dress for spring/summer, and I cannot wait to wear it on solo picnics whilst reading Eve Babitz or enjoying an Aperol Spritz at a rooftop bar.

I hope you enjoyed this little outfit of the day post, and I look forward to seeing you next week!
