Longevity in Vintage & Vintage Vendors

As we approach 2023, I've been looking through the depths of my closets, drawers, and storage unit to clear out any clothing or accessories that are no longer worn. As I assess my wardrobe, I've noticed that all my vintage items stand the test of time. Typically vintage clothing is made from longstanding fabrics such as cotton, linen, wool, and silks and requires special care. I handwash, dry clean, and delicately machine wash most of these items, elongating their lifespan. Each piece was carefully machine and hand sewn with care, and was crafted with careful attention to detail, such as a hem finished with a bit of lace netting or a neckline with hand-cut scalloped finishing. Due to its sustainability and fashion-forward, one-of-a-kind looks, vintage clothing is finding a resurgence in the area where I live. I am happy to share with you a vintage market event I was a part of for Gal Friday Vintage.

The event occurred a few weeks ago at one of my favorite spots, Mahall's, in Lakewood, Ohio. It was titled Deck Mahall's Holiday Market and was my first time being a vendor at an event. I was super excited to spotlight Gal Friday Vintage and talk with other vintage enthusiasts about the beauty of vintage. I am pleased to say that I was amongst some of my favorite vintage sellers, including Refried Vintage, re: Collection, 6th Street Vintage, and Slow Union. I learned a lot from these vintage gurus and feel honored to have been able to be in the same space as them.

My vendor embodied the heart of GFV, which includes classic looks inspired by the fabulous women of Mad Men and actresses from old films shown on TCM and Criterion Channel. Printed 50s wiggle dresses, glamorous faux fur pieces, funky 70s jumpsuits, and lacy and delicate vintage slips. GFV represents a lifestyle; thus, there were items such as records and magazines.

There were many miscellaneous items, such as a mid-century working blow dryer, Volupte compact, costume jewelry, embroidered handkerchiefs, etc. Similar to when I ship items through Depop and Poshmark, I had GFV postcards with my inspirations, Audrey Hepburn and Dorothy Dandridge.

This event taught me so much and exposed me to many different vintage styles and aesthetics. Even if customers did not purchase items from me, they were excited to see the quality and design of the pieces from yesteryear. As I watched women try on pieces and see their faces light up by what they wore, I felt a sense of pride and joy. I hope to be involved in more events such as this. This is the beginning of some lovely things for Gal Friday Vintage, and I'm excited to see what 2023 will bring.
