They Say It’s Spring
Hello lovelies, I'm back with a new post and I am so excited! There are a few things to catch you guys up with. I have been booked and busy costume designing shows around Cleveland, Ohio and I will upload a more in-depth post about shows that I've been working on and career updates soon. I recently designed 1776 at Near West Theatre which closes this weekend, so I have been far and distant from this blog as I prepared for that show. But I am back and the weather is warm again. I can't help but think of Blossom Dearie's rendition of "They Say It's Spring," because it has honestly been my mood lately. When the sun is out, I find that I have a clearer mind and a bigger smile. I wake up feeling a bit lighter and ready to take on the day. But most importantly, I am very happy to get back to wearing my dresses and skirts. Oh how I've missed allowing my legs to breathe (I am not the biggest fan of wearing pants if you haven't been able to tell). I hope you all enjoy this little Outfit of the Day post.
This look is very comfortable but I still feel that retro fabulousness that I always to try to exude. My color palette is pretty neutral--creams, whites, and browns--with a pop of floral print to bring some bright colors in. For my handbag, I opted for one of my favorites which is this vintage floral top handle purse with gold hardware and clasp. This purse means the world to me as it was a gift from one of my closest friends on my birthday. My sunglasses are brown rounded tortoiseshell frames which I "borrowed" from my mother's accessories drawer.
For other accessories, I was drawn to this gold necklace with oversized irridescent cream stones. This necklace was also given to me by another friend of mine and reminds me so much of summer. I will definitely be wearing this piece A LOT with flowy dresses and balmy weather. I am wearing vintage oval shaped earrings with rose decals at the center and my good luck ring which is my mom's engagement ring from my dad that I wear every single day.
My vintage sweater (1950s-60s) is white knit with beautiful pink and green rose embroidery. I picked this up at Future No Future Vintage in their sales section for $15. I love collecting these kinds of sweaters because they can really dress up or dress down an outfit.
This dress will probably end up being one that I wear too often. I found this at the Salvation Army for $5 and it is honestly the most comfortable dress I've ever worn. It is a beautiful cream and sand brown button down tent dress with an empire waist. I love the contrast between the solid sand brown bodice and the printed plaid skirt. The bodice has large white topstitching at the neckline that is decorative and adds to the design. The fabric is a soft cotton so it is very comfortable and breathable. It was made in India and I have no idea the origins (i.e.- the original store this was sold in, the year it was made, etc.), but I feel so lovely in it.
My shoes are by Born Shoes and are simple white flip flops by with brown topstitching detail and two buckles to secure the sandal more closely to the foot. The Born brand makes extremely comfortable shoes--it literally feels as if you are walking on air--and are typically around $75-95 but I was able to find these at Designer Consignor on sale for $8 and knew I had to grab them!
Side note: Do you ever just have REALLY good hair days? This was a particularly GREAT hair day for me. A trick that I have learned to create a long lasting curl set is to wet your hair with a spray bottle before rolling it at night. I spritz a ton of water to each section that I am rolling and use Flexi-rods which creates the most intense curl. I prefer intense curls that I can brush out and tame as opposed to curling really loose curl sets that drop significantly during the day.
I'm excited to be back and hope this post was a nice little enjoyable read. I will see you next week for another Gal Friday!
