Overdressed

DISCLAIMER: Overdressed is a project that no longer exists. - 8/2020

This photo series always brings a smile to my face. It's interesting the way that we see ourselves and the way that other people see us. I believe the camera is a mighty weapon. This photograph was taken by the talented, Sean Sirota (his work can be seen here) and the shoot was directed by my dear friend Henrietta Audu, who has taken most of my photographs for Gal Friday.

I am pleased to announce that Henrietta has launched a style blog called Overdressed (here). And I am truly honored to be her first interviewee.

Henrietta Audu is from Jos, Nigeria and now resides in New York City. She recently graduated from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in Integrated Design (her pathway is Fashion Studies). This lady is talented in so many different areas! She's amazing with textiles, illustrations, photography, and gardening. Henri is all about community engagement and her work showcases her sentimentality and kind nature.

When she first told me about her ideas for her blog, I was so excited! Overdressed is a style blog that I believe is much needed today.

Overdressed is an ongoing collection of interviews. On the surface it's a style blog, but Henrietta delves deeper into the lives of everyone she interviews. The way one dresses is a reflection of their past, present, and future. Their cultural identity, economic status, family background, and so on and so forth. My interview was a very personal one. I discuss everything from my decision to leave Parsons School of Design, to Audrey Hepburn, to my father passing, to Turner Classic Movies.

Henrietta has always been someone with a deep interest in people, that comes from her compassionate nature. Overdressed will give a voice to people who we typically do not get the opportunity to see in popular culture. She has interviews of many other women of color with unique styles and interesting perspectives on life and style. You will not be disappointed with this amazing blog!

You can check out my interview and more of these beautiful photographs here and Overdressed's Instagram here.
