For the Love of Vinyls

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped in a funky little record store in Brooklyn. This older woman saw me scouting out the jazz section and commented, "Within the past couple of years, you youngsters have really become into good ol' records, huh?" It's true, vinyl has become a trend in recent times--especially in New York City! I personally love throwing on a good LP. My collection has become INSANELY large, but I never scout out records. I like to stumble across something good in passing and then buy!

I haven't been able to enjoy records as often as I'd like because it's really hard when you have roommate(s) due to not wanting to keep up too much noise. I like my records playing loud to hear that little scratch and the crooners croon, the jazz ladies belt, and the big bands boom. On this day, I decided to go over to a friend's so we could drink cheap wine from Trader Joe's, have girl talk, and let the records spin!

Nat King Cole is a classic. He's one of my favorite male singers of all time! His voice is smooth as butter and fits a happier mood. If you aren't in a happy mood, he sure will perk you up! My favorite record that I own of his is, Unforgettable that I snagged at an estate sale for $2. My friend had this awesome record, Nat King Cole Sings/ George Shearing Plays. This has some of my favorites of his, "Pick Yourself Up" and "Lost April."

There's just something about a good old vintage record player, nothing can compare!

A few other recommendations to be on the look out for if you're into jazzy LPs are: Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day, Dean Martin, Sarah Vaughan, Doris Day, Julie London, Chet Baker, Blossom Dearie, Perry Como, The Platters, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mathis, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Vic Damone, The Andrew Sisters, and Billie Holiday.

Now on to the look, this particular outfit makes me think of sports specifically tennis! This 1960s button down polyester striped short sleeved dress is the cutest and will keep you cool on a particularly warm day. I love the little details on the dress, the cuffed sleeves, the tie around the waist, the particular shade of sky blue contrasting with the white--it's an all around winner for me! The dress is a bit sheer because of the nylon material, so I typically wear a black slip underneath for coverage.

To make the look a bit more casual and sportsy, I like to pair this dress with my white Keds and a pair of white socks! My rhinestone earrings are vintage studs with a little flower rhinestone attachment.

I'm horrible at sports, but I think if I wore a number like this, my chances of winning would increase!

By now you all know that I am a hat lady through and through. This particular hat is from the 1940s/early 1950s and holds this awesome hexagon shape that just takes my breath away! It is the kind of hat that can be paired with a dress or a simple top and slacks--it can easily be dressed up or dressed down depending on mood!

This day was a bit muggy and sweaty so my face isn't done up much. My makeup routine generally stays the same though (as pictured here). I set my face with powder because, I just don't like the feel of foundation/concealer. I dust a brownish/pink eyeshadow on my lids, fill in my brows, line a cat eye on my lids, put on falsies, apply pink blush to my cheeks and I can never forget red lipstick!

Hope you enjoyed darlings! I will see you next week as always xx
