Keeping It Casual

This week we're talking about casual wear. Typically, in my blog posts, I showcase weekend looks, but today I wanted to show how I dress for work and everyday life during the weekdays. For casual wear, I am inspired by the everyday looks of Audrey Hepburn, Dorothy Dandridge, Grace Kelly, and other 1950s/60s. I love fitted trousers or graphic ankle-length dress pants paired with a retro or vintage turtleneck, boat neck top, simple blouse, or a classic button-down shirt. I am good to go with casual footwear, a little jewelry, and simple hair accessories!

For today's work look, my outerwear consists of a black London Fog hooded jacket from the 1990s/early 2000s. It is a double-breasted jacket and made of comfortable suede material. This jacket reminds me of something Meg Ryan would've worn in You've Got Mail (1998). I found this comfy, fabulous jacket at Volunteers of America for $8! I opted for a printed floral green scarf I borrowed from my mom years ago (and never returned) that I tied on my head like a headband.

For my outfit, I opted for a chocolate brown and white striped short-sleeved knit turtleneck that I bought from the Salvation Army for $3.50 during a holiday sale. It is retro-looking and perfect for any season! I paired it with an old pair of yellow, white, and red square-printed H&M trousers tied at the waist. I've had these pants since 2013 and still wear them regularly. The pants are ankle-length, so I wore black knitted knee-high socks and a pair of Vans (Note: These Vans are very worn and are what I wear when working with children outdoors). I wore a tan knitted sweater that I also purchased at the Salvation Army for $2.75 years ago.

Finally, I thought I'd share a few images of Audrey Hepburn in casual wear from the 1950s. These are images that inspire me in my daily life. Before Audrey became famous, it was noted that she owned very little clothing but would find new ways to wear her simple pieces. She'd dress her articles of clothing up with scarves and other accessories. One can achieve the vintage look while still being comfortable and practical. I highly recommend checking out vintage fashion magazines, Pinterest, and old films and TV shows, to get a glimpse of fabulous, casual, functional, and easily achievable looks!

I hope you enjoyed this little post, and I will see you soon! Thank you to anyone who still tunes into this space. <3
