Summertime

End of summer is here and I’ve been thinking a lot about the film Summertime (1955) starring Katharine Hepburn and directed by the talented English director David Lean. The film follows Hepburn’s character Jane, a secretary from Akron, Ohio who travels alone to Italy. She looks forward to taking in the sights and having new experiences. Yet she was plagued by the idea of being alone (a spinster as they called it back in the day). She begins an affair with a married man she falls madly in love with but in the end decides to go back to America. The picture is filmed in glorious technicolor on location. The beautiful Piazzo San Marco, antique shops, outdoor restaurants, etc. are all picturesque. It made me think about how we were unable to travel this summer and made me long for a lovely trip. But at least we have wonderful films to transport us anywhere!

For my end of summer post, I decided to get festive and dress the part. This 1980s Hawaiian floral short sleeved romper is one of the comfiest articles of clothing that I own. It is short sleeved with a traditional shirt collar and has an elastic waist with buttons down the center front. I purchased this from Chelsea’s Costumes. I love pattern on pattern so I wore a vintage red, deep purple, and white scarf tied at the neck. For shoes, I opted for 1970s wedges that have wooden platforms engraved with a swirly pattern and has floral hardware on the large strap. These were purchased at Flower Child.

For makeup I wore pearlescent pale pink blush as eyeshadow that came out looking cream. Very reminiscent of 1970s eyeshadow colors. My blush is a dusty pink from Cover Girl and my lipstick is a simple semi-matte pink coloring. Unfortunately I wore no nail polish on my fingers and toes.

For end of summer, I suggest listening to anything by Durand Jones & The Indications. They create music reminiscent of the classics of The Temptations and Jackie Wilson. They also have a lovely playlist on Spotify called “Indications’ Inspiration” that has over 700 songs that they love. The playlist has everything from Al Green to The Dramatics to Frank Ocean. It is a perfect playlist for end of summer!

Hope you all enjoyed this post and I will see you next week!!
