Future No Future Vintage
Hello lovely people! I have a small confession to make: since I've moved back to my hometown, I have been feeling infinitely inspired. A lot of said inspiration has possibly sprang up from the loads of marvelous costuming opportunities that have come my way. That is the main reason why I have been a bit MIA on Gal Friday Vintage and my social media. I am currently shifting around my schedule and leaving my day job to just focus on my costuming and self-employment/contracting. So I will definitely be able to bring more content when my schedule is freed up a bit!
But back to the whole point of this post! Due to feeling infinitely inspired, my bank account has suffered a little because the vintage shops in Ohio are on another level. There's so many different kinds of vintage shopping you can do here! You can shop at stores that specialize in mostly 1930s/40s clothing, shops that sell mainly vintage appliances and heavy duty household items, shops that specialize in costuming and so on.
On this day I ventured to one of my favorite vintage clothing stores, Future No Future Vintage Clothing where they sell clothing from 1920s-1990s. On my shopping excursions, I like to dress cute but comfortably. I find that dresses are the easiest items of clothing for me to slip into. I opted to wear a recent purchase from a new vintage shop, Vintage Fashion Cleveland. This short-sleeved cotton dress is a gorgeous mauve color with paint-like strokes of a floral print in white, pink, and shades of grey. The bodice is a collarless button down with fabric covered buttons and an elastic waisted pleated knee-length skirt. I absolutely adore this dress and can see myself wearing this all year round! I opted for my hunter green strappy heels from Payless that I wore in the last post. I just love the combination of pink and green!
Lately I've been really into pinks, lavenders, and reds for makeup which I think truly matches this dress. I take a clown red Alcone blush and blend it on my eyelids and cheekbones with the usual cat eye and lash combo. I use the blush as an underlay ("lip liner") for my lipstick and topped it off with "Cherries in the Snow" (as always) by Revlon for my lipstick.
For accessories I wore my brown tortoiseshell and neon pink hinged sunglasses that I bought from Dollar Tree. I wore my 1950s ivory and white beaded purse which has been a recurring item that I've been carrying as of late.
Now onto the magic that is Future No Future Vintage Clothing. I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked but this place is truly a vintage trove of enchantment. Every time I set foot in this store, I cannot help but buy something that I didn't know I needed. Just take a look at their hat collection consisting of a lovely array of hats from 1930s on up. The thing I love about this store the most is that it's highly curated items geared towards a younger customer. They select hats that bare the handiwork and marvelous fabrics of past eras but with modern sensibility. I think of ladies from the past wearing these such as Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy as well as interesting modern ladies such as Dita Von Teese and Tilda Swenson.
One of my favorite sections of Future No Future is the formal and cocktail dresses section. I long to find events to go to where I can dress like the lovely ladies of the past in their fabulous evening and cocktail dresses. All of the vintage clothing in this store is in impeccable condition! This 1950s silk taffeta cocktail dress in shades of gold and green and crystal buttons made me swoon. One of the main reasons I love vintage clothing is how flattering it looks on women. Notice the front darts and bust darts in the bodice--perfect for adding the right shape to a woman's body.
I've been rewatching marathons of Mad Men lately and I've finally reached one of my favorite seasons, Season 5 in which Megan Draper (played by Jessica Paré) is FINALLY a main cast member. I love the modernity and youthfulness of her clothing throughout the show especially in Season 5 because it combined classic traditional style with the emerging cool looks of the 1960s. Dresses like this 1960s turquoise sequined dress with a pleated skirt looks like something she'd wear! I see this being a future purchase.
Future No Future has a beautiful selection of vintage lingerie and loungewear. The polka dot house dress is from the 1930s in mint condition! They have a small but well preserved selection of bullet bras, cone bras, and girdles from the 1940s and 50s. Many of my silk slips and nylon nightgowns comes from this store. I cannot wait to show you guys the nude brown silk slip I was able to snag for $25 here!
This store boasts a wide range of bold colors and prints that a designer like Isaac Mizrahi would approve of!
I don't have much luck with vintage shoe shopping except from here! Everything is sized correctly (which is hard to find in most vintage shops) and again the styles are youthful. Cowboy shoe galore (I need a pair!), fabulous printed flats, leather heels, and soft sneakers.
This store is absolutely divine! Every time I set foot inside I feel instantly inspired. There's many things I didn't photograph like all of the wonderful prairie dresses, silk men's robes, aviator jackets, mink coats and stoles, vintage playsuits and swimwear, the list could go on and on. I feel so lucky to live in a city where so many wonderful vintage clothing are at my fingertips!
I hope you all enjoyed this post and I will see you next week!
