1970s Vibes

Hello dearies! I am back again with a new blog post. It has been a while because your girl began her first semester in graduate school this summer. It was quick-paced and intense, but I finished the semester with a 4.0 GPA!

I need to get better at this blogging thing. Those who have stayed on this journey with me, thank you for your continual support of Gal Friday Vintage. I hope that you enjoy this outfit of the day post!

I've been a bit skeptical about uploading new blog posts due to some insecurities that I've had over body image. I do not edit my photographs for this blog because I want viewers to see my outfits' actual colors and see the real me, flaws and all. With that said, sometimes, it is easy to nitpick and critique my looks while looking over photographs taken of me. I typically purchase looser-fitting vintage clothing such as caftans and muumuus to hide my body. Recently I've decided to buy more form-fitting outfits that still have drape and comfort to them.

I've recently discovered a darling consignment shop in Lakewood, Ohio, called Christ Child Showcase Clothing. I came across the store in passing a few weeks ago, and now I am a regular shopper there. Showcase Clothing carries modern-day retro clothing in bright colors and bold prints. I purchased this Donna Morgan wrap dress from them for $10! I feel so gorgeous in this 1970s inspired flattering dress! I love the bold brown and white circular print. It has a low-cut v-neckline, so I made sure to wear a pretty bra that showcased a sliver of black lace at the cleavage.

For accessories, I wore black Covington open-toe kitten heels that were $8 from Showcase Clothing. These are the most comfortable heels ever! I love the thin strap around the ankle. I opted to wear my huge white retro heart-shaped sunglasses that I purchased at Flower Child last summer. My small black marabou trimmed handbag pairs well with the overall look! I bought this y2k purse from the Salvation Army years ago.

1960s and 1970s black fashion immensely inspire me. On the Fourth of July, I watched Summer of Soul (2021), a music documentary that showcased the never before seen Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969. I laughed, cried, sang, and danced while watching. The festival celebrated black culture through music, fashion, and history. Performers included Stevie Wonder, The Clark Sisters, Mahalia Jackson, Sly and Family Stone, Nina Simone, and so much more. Of course, the fashions of the performers inspired me, but the looks of the audience truly captured my eyes. There were mesh shirts, two-piece floral sets, flared pants, pastel suits, and boldly patterned maxi dresses.

This outfit evokes some of the 1970s vibes that I attempt to capture. I want to continue to explore this style and create further blog posts on it. I hope that you enjoyed this blog post, and I will see you soon!
