Mincara Faux Fur

IMG_3991.JPG

Hello friends! Daylight Savings, gloomy grey skies, post-COVID anxiety, and restlessness. It is so easy to feel bogged down, exhausted, and down in the dumps during this time. I’ve been having a case of the mean reds which is a feeling described in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) by Holly Golightly as a feeling where “suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of.” Holly Golightly claims that a trip to Tiffany’s calms her down right away. I haven’t found an exact remedy yet, but sharing this space with you guys always helps me and I hope that this space helps you escape for a bit as well. I’m here with another Outfit of the Day post that I hope you all enjoy!

Let’s talk about this 1960s faux fur cape by Mincara. This cape looks luxe with its wide collar and brass gold button. It can be worn for day but is probably preferable for evening and can jazz up any outfit. I’ve found Mincara coats in the past specifically by Russel Taylor who seemed to specialize in faux fur outerwear from the 1950s onward. This gorgeous cape will be listed very soon on my Gal Friday Vintage Depop and Poshmark shops so stay tuned!

For accessories, I’ve been wearing vintage scarves and tying them into headbands to deal with day old curls and extreme winds. This black and gold floral one seemed perfect to pair with this ensemble. I found this a long time ago at the Salvation Army for 50 cents. Stocking up on vintage scarves has been a lifesaver for me. I wear them as headbands, tied around ponytails, tied around the neck, as babushkas, for belting, etc. They can serve so many different purposes and add a pop of color as well as a vintage touch. Think Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jackie Kennedy!

Due to the chilly weather, I opted for my cozy black cable knit sweater from American Apparel (a store that I miss dearly). I bought this in high school and it is still in excellent condition.

I wore one of my favorite vintage garments that I own which is this vintage red, black, gold, and white plaid pleated schoolgirl style jumper. I absolutely adore the fact that it is a skort and has gold chains across the center front skirt. I purchased this from Vintage Fashion Cleveland, a fabulous source for some great vintage fashion goods. This is not a piece that I wear often, but when I do it definitely makes a statement! I paired it with black knee high knit socks and simple Ked-style shoes from Dr. Scholl’s that are the most comfortable shoes in the world.

I hope you all are staying warm and I will see you next week! I have a special guest that I’ve interviewed and am excited for you to read all about her! <333
