Prelude to Nightgowns

This is Day # ??? I don't even know of social distancing. With the extension of social and physical distancing, I decided to dedicate a series to vintage lingerie and loungewear. I just adore the feel of a silk negligee, the fluffiness of a marabou slipper, the warmth of a Japanese kimono. 1920s - 70s provides an ample of wearable options. Pastel peignoir sets, plush quilted bed jackets, nylon slips in various lengths. Ostrich feathers, dramatic ruffles, delicate lace, and intricate pleats. If you are thinking of starting up a vintage collection, I suggest beginning with loungewear. Wearing these beautiful pieces around the house will make you feel your most glamorous.

This vintage nightgown and lace robe is not a part of a set, but combined together looks like one. I received both of these items as presents from my dear cousins a couple Christmases ago. Both items are from Flower Child, one of my favorite vintage shops in Cleveland, Ohio. This 1950s nightgown has two layers of sheer nylon fabric. The top layer skirt portion has the most delicate, tiny pleats gathered at the lace bodice. The bodice is held up by two teeny spaghetti straps on either side. The 1950s lace robe has ruffles down the center fronts and sleeve hem which adds to its beauty. My slippers are a fairly recent purchase from Vintage Fashion Cleveland. They are a fantastic pair of retro silver wedge heeled marabou slippers. The marabou trim is in beautiful caramel and tan shades with a silver rose in the center.

You always need the right boudoir slippers! And I'd suggest picking up a vintage magazine or a limited edition LIFE magazine. Kick back with a glass of champs and enjoy this time off. What's my choice of literature you may ask? LIFE'sRemembering Marilyn edition. I hope you all enjoyed this little post and are staying safe and healthy during this time! I will see you next week!!
