Picture It, Winter 1964.

Hello lovelies! Winter isn’t going away anytime soon and I have some fabulous pieces for the colder weather. I love vintage separates especially outerwear! Modern day coats and jackets just don’t compare to the beauty and craftsmanship of coats in the past. Lots of beautiful fur and faux fur pieces, dazzling buttons, decorative pockets, nifty collars that can close or open, capes, radical patterns, and cozy wool fabrics. I’m a sucker for it all! I thought I’d share some fabulous pieces that are up on the shop site.

This beautiful 1960s ILGWU tan wool coat is absolutely darling! Think Betty Draper in Mad Men (2007-2015), Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), and Grace Kelly. I love the details of this coat. There is a fabulous brown faux fur collar that has a hook and eye closure to keep your neck nice and warm during the colder days. The seaming on this coat is a detail that I wish was featured in modern clothing design. A simple detail like intricate seaming completely changes the fit of the garment to better fit the body.

Fun detail: ILGWU (the makers of the coat) stands for International Ladies Garment Workers Union which was one of the largest unions in America that began in 1900. ILGWU was a union made up primarily of women and played a huge role in the Liberal Party and labor history in general. During the 1920s, they focused their energies on hiring African American women and garment maker and activist Floria Pinkney became the first African American woman to hold a leadership role in ILGWU. The Union became involved in many strikes and electoral politics. In 1995 ILGWU was forced to merge with Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union and formed the labor union UNITE HERE.

The next piece is this lovely long 1960s power blue London Fog trench-coat. This jacket has a trench coat belt to cinch in the waist. There are ties at the cuffs that are also adjustable. I love the gathering at the shoulders of the sleeves and the combination of masculinity and femininity that the trench-coat has.

I absolutely adore the look and style of vintage tags. They also help determine the timeframe of a garment. London Fog was founded in 1923 in America and is the standard for the classic trench-coat. You cannot go wrong with this look on a chilly day. Trench-coats reminds me of detectives and film noir.

fauxfurcollar.jpg

In terms of accessories, I’m all for faux fur attachments, scarves, and wraps. This vintage faux fur collar has a hook and eye closure to keep the collar nice and secure around the neck. It can dress up any look! You can pair it with a simple long sleeved shirt and lovely skirt or trousers. It is the ultimate 1950s/60s accessory!

Last but not least, these vintage dangly rhinestone earrings are superb! They will add a fancy accessory to any outfit. The earrings are long and add some drama.

I highly recommend checking out Gal Friday Vintage Shop and continuing to support small business during this time. I appreciate all of your support and hope that you enjoyed this post! <333
